Winter Pool Care

Preparing your swimming pool for the winter may seem a daunting task but a good quality winter pool cover will make life a good deal easier and will keep your pool protected throughout the cold winter months.

There are a number of very good reasons why you should use a winter pool cover.

Firstly, if you have used a solar pool cover during the summer months then you should not use this during the winter. Keep it either indoors or on a solar cover reel and properly protected from the elements.

Secondly, a winter pool cover will ensure that your swimming pool liner will last a good deal longer. Exposed to the elements during a long and miserable winter, your pool liner will suffer and you may find that you will need to replace it in the spring. This applies particularly if you have above ground pool and it is perhaps easier to protect your pool with a winter pool cover that have to replace the liner!

Most importantly, you will find that a properly secured winter pool cover will keep leaves and other debris out of pool thereby significantly reducing you clean up and preparation costs in the spring. Not only that but it will be secure during the winter months!

In addition, assuming you have treated your water correctly in preparation for the winter, you should find that the water is as clear in the spring as it was when you put the cover on!

There are plenty of options available when choosing you winter pool cover. Winter pool covers are available to fit every pool size and, of course, every budget. If you can, look for the better quality cover. Not only will it last longer but it will do a better job too. Look for one that is at the very least mildew and rot resistant. Oddly enough, not all of them are. It should also include winch and cable too.

Wintering your pool is not difficult. Try to avoid simply draining the pool and leaving it exposed to the elements. This may seem the easy option now but you will pay for it later. A good quality winter pool cover is a wise investment and you will reap the benefits in the spring!
